A surgical instrument (110) includes a gripping assembly (170), a shaft assembly (130), an end effector (140), and a pivoting member (154). The gripping assembly (170) defines a first opening (172, 182) for receiving a finger or a thumb of a user. The shaft assembly (130) extends distally from the gripping assembly (170). The end effector (140) is positioned at a distal end of the shaft assembly (130) and includes a first member (142). The pivoting member (154) is pivotably coupled with the shaft assembly (130).
