The present invention relates to compositions comprising Agave fructans to stimulate the absorption of mineral salts and the fixation of bone in mammals, under osteoporosis condition, resulting in pronounced beneficial effects also in lowering plasma glucose levels and body weight reduction measured in ovariectomized mice, administering a standard diet and the compositions of the invention. The Agave fructans compositions of the invention have effects that outweigh inulin-type fructans known from other species, attributable mainly to the branched and non-linear structure of Agave fructans, as is the case with inulin.Cette invention concerne des compositions comprenant des fructanes d'agave pour stimuler l'absorption des sels minéraux et la fixation de l'os chez les mammifères souffrant d'ostéoporose, qui permettent d'obtenir des effets bénéfiques prononcés également en termes d'abaissement des taux glycémiques plasmatiques et de réduction du poids corporel, mesurés chez des souris ovariectomisées par administration d'un régime standard et des compositions selon l'invention. Les compositions de fructanes d'agave selon l'invention ont des effets qui dépassent ceux des fructanes de type inuline connus provenant d'autres espèces, principalement imputables à la structure ramifiée et non linéaire des fructanes d'agave, comme dans le cas de l'inuline.
