A method of rapid transbuccal delivery of an active agent into the bloodstream is provided. The method can include providing a pharmaceutical composition comprising the active agent, resin and a volatile solvent and, optionally, water. In some embodiments, the method achieves a Tmax 60 minutes or less, an onset of therapeutic effect of 60 minutes or less, and/or achieves therapeutic serum levels of the active agent within 60 minutes or less.
