A biometric authentication apparatus comprises a biometric reader for capturing biometric data of an individual. A movement sensor unit comprises at least one micro-electromechanical sensor for detecting movement. The movement sensor unit records movement data from the movement detected by the at least one micro-electromechanical sensor. An authentication processor triggers authentication checks of the individual by emitting an authentication demand signal, and transmits a status signal related at least to the captured biometric data and the recorded movement data to an authentication server.
