The present invention relates to a novel use of Nardostachys jatamansi (NJ) and, more specifically, to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating chronic pancreatitis or a food composition for preventing and alleviating chronic pancreatitis, wherein the pharmaceutical composition or food composition includes an NJ extract as an active ingredient. The composition of the present invention effectively controls chronic pancreatitis caused by caerulein and ethanol so as to be effectively used to prevent and treat chronic pancreatitis.본 발명은 감송향 (Nardostachys jatamansi NJ)의 신규한 용도에 관한 것으로, 보다 상세하게는 감송향 추출물을 활성성분으로 포함하는 만성 췌장염의 예방 및 치료용 약학적 조성물 또는 만성 췌장염 예방 및 개선용 식품 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 조성물은 세룰레인 및 에탄올에 의해서 유발되는 만성 췌장염을 효과적으로 억제하므로 만성 췌장염의 예방 및 치료를 위하여 효과적으로 사용될 수 있다.
