Chopping apparatus (21) having two rotatable assemblies (7, 8), one assembly being a blade assembly having a plurality of elongate blades (5) arranged about the surface of a notional cylinder (9), the other being either a like blade assembly or a roller. The blades have a cutting edge aligned substantially tangentially to the cylinder, and the rotatable assemblies are arranged adjacent each other on substantially parallel axes (16). Each assembly is driven to rotate about its cylindrical axis.
