The invention relates to a sterilised thermogelling composition comprising a chitosan having N acetylglucosamine units glucosamine units and substituted glucosamine units other than the N acetylglucosamine units said substituted chitosan preferably having a degree of substitution of the glucosamine units of between 10 and 50% expressed as mole number of the substituent in relation to the mole number of total units. The invention also relates to the production and uses of the composition.
