The present invention relates to a sterilized thermogelling composition comprising a substituted chitosan having N-acetyl-glucosamine units, glucosamine units, and substituted glucosamine units other than N-acetyl-glucosamine units, its preparation and its use. The substitution rate of the glucosamine unit of the substituted chitosan is preferably 10 to 50% (expressed as a ratio of the number of moles of substituents to the number of moles of all units).
