The invention relates to pigments on the basis of multi-coated platelet-shaped substrates, characterized in that there are at least four layers (layers (A) to (D)) on the substrate, and to the use thereof in paints, varnishes, lacquers, automobile paints, powder paints, printing inks, security printing inks, plastics, ceramic materials, glasses, paper, in toners for electro-photographic printing methods, in seeds, in greenhouse films and tarpaulins, as absorbers in the laser marking of paper and plastics, in cosmetic formulations, for the production of pigment doughings with water, organic and/or aqueous solvents, for the production of pigment preparations and dry preparations.
