Process for the preparation of mucilage isolated from seeds of Ocimum basilicum as a pharmaceutical excipient, in the pharmaceutical composition, said process comprising the steps of: i) soaking the seeds in distilled water or water for the Pharmaceutical purpose for at least 20 minutes ii) homogenizing the said soaked seeds of step (i) iii) centrifugating the said homogenized seeds of step (ii) till the seed and mucilage are separated iv) complete drying of the said seed mucilage v) removing the said dried seed mucilage and processing the same obtaining the powder of uniform size. Vi) Above powder is further microwave dried at 350 W and 20-30 min. vii) adding the above obtained powder from the seeds of the ocimum basilicum as pharmaceutical excipient.
