PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating or preventing spontaneous preterm birth in pregnant women and a method for improving neonatal morbidity and mortality.SOLUTION: The method comprises administering, to a pregnant woman having shortened or effaced uterine cervix, an effective amount of progesterone sufficient to prolong gestation by minimizing the shortening or effacement of uterine cervix of the pregnant woman. Treatment and prophylaxis with progesterone in pregnant women having symptoms of short uterine cervix has been clinically shown to increase neonatal health.【課題】妊婦において自然早産を治療又は予防する方法、並びに新生児罹病率及び死亡率を改善する方法の提供。【解決手段】短縮又は展退した子宮頸管を有する妊婦に、妊婦の子宮頸管の短縮又は展退を最小限に抑えることにより妊娠期間を延長するのに十分な有効量のプロゲステロンを投与することを含む方法。子宮頸管短縮の症状がある妊婦におけるプロゲステロンを用いた治療及び予防は、新生児の健康状態を増進することが臨床的に示されている。【選択図】なし
