The swallowable device (10) also comprises at least one expandable member assembly (30) disposed within the capsule (20). The swallowable device (10) comprises a liquid (68) contained in one compartment, and a reactant (65) contained in another compartment, wherein when a valve (50) degrades, the liquid (68) and the reactant (65) mix to produce a gas which expands at least the second compartment (35). The swallowable device (10) also comprises a delivery mechanism (70) coupled to the at least one expandable member (30), and at least one tissue penetrating member (40).
