PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method for obtaining an aqueous pigment dispersion which is particularly excellent in long-term storage stability without producing coarse particles even after the heating and cooling test.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing a pigment kneaded product, the method comprising the steps of: (1) mixing a pigment, a resin (A) having an anionic group and a neutralizer for neutralizing the anionic group and slurrying the resulting mixture in a water or a liquid medium containing water as a main component, followed by spray drying or freeze-drying to obtain a composite pigment; and (2) kneading a mixture containing the composite pigment obtained in the step (1), an aqueous organic solvent and a resin (B) having an anionic group, and there is provided a method for producing an aqueous pigment dispersion for liquefying the pigment kneaded product obtained in the above method by adding and stirring water or a liquid medium containing water as a main component.
