The described embodiments relate to wearable devices (104, 200) that can collect data related to the stretching and compressing of a meander or flexible inductor (108, 116, 216, 306) of the wearable device. By collecting such data, the wearable device can track the motions of a person (102) that is wearing the wearable device. Furthermore, the wearable device can determine whether it is becoming loose from the body of the person, or whether components of the wearable device are degrading. Flexible inductor(s) (108, 116, 216, 306) in the wearable device can be used to measure changes in inductance and/or impedance that can occur when the flexible inductor(s) are stretched or compressed. Signals resulting from these changes can be filtered to identify types of movements occurring at the wearable device.
