PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide platy particles coated with a metal oxide solid solution cerium oxide improving dispersibility of metal oxide solid solution cerium oxide particles and producing high ultraviolet screening effects with a small amount thereof compounded.SOLUTION: The platy particles coated with the metal oxide solid solution cerium oxide are obtained by coating the platy particles having 1-50 &mum particle diameter and 30-100 aspect ratio with the metal oxide solid solution cerium oxide particles prepared by forming a solid solution of cerium oxide with one or two or more kinds of metal ions selected from Ca2+, Y3+, La3+, Nd3+, Eu3+, Tb3+, Sm3+, Mg2+, Sr2+, Ba2+, Ce3+, Zn2+, Fe3+, Co2+ and Ni2+. The concentration of the cerium oxide in the metal oxide solid solution cerium oxide particles is preferably 40-98 mol%. Mica is preferred as the platy particles. Furthermore, the platy particles coated with the metal oxide solid solution cerium oxide are formulated in a resin or a cosmetic.COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT【課題】金属酸化物固溶酸化セリウム粒子の分散性を向上させ、少ない配合量で高い紫外線遮断効果を上げ得る金属酸化物固溶酸化セリウム被覆板状粒子を提供する。【解決手段】粒径が1~50μm、アスぺクト比が30~100の板状粒子を、酸化セリウムにCa2+、Y3+、La3+、Nd3+、Eu3+、Tb3+、Sm3+、Mg2+、Sr2+、Ba2+、Ce3+、Zn2+、Fe3+、Co2+、Ni2+のうちから選ばれる一種又は二種以上の金属イオンを固溶させてなる金属酸化物固溶酸化セリウム粒子で被覆してなる金属酸化物固溶酸化セリウム被覆板状粒子である。上記の金属酸化物固溶酸化セリウム粒子中の酸化セリウム濃度は40~98モル%が好ましい。板状粒子としては雲母が好ましい。上記の金属酸化物固溶酸化セリウム被覆板状粒子は樹脂や化粧料に配合する。
