A system and method is for identifying a location of the heart responsible for a particular sound such as a heart murmur. Heart sounds are analyzed separately for heart cycles which take place during inspiration and during expiration. Based on the separate analysis, it is possible to determine if a particular heart sound is from the left side or the right side of the heart.
