A method of detecting the occurrence of snoring by a patient is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: (i) measuring a noise level with a sensor during an inspiration phase of the patient's breathing cycle； (ii) measuring a noise level with a sensor during an expiration phase of the patient's breathing cycle； (iii) using a processor to calculate a snore value as a function of the difference in the noise levels measured during the inspiration phase and the expiration phase； (iv) determining that snoring has occurred when the snore value is above a predetermined threshold； and (v) generating a snore signal to indicate that snoring has been detected.
