The present invention relates to an antimicrobial membrane. More particularly the present invention relates to an antimicrobial membrane for purification of drinking water under gravity by removing harmful microorganism that exists in an input water source. One of the objects of the present invention is to provide an antimicrobial membrane with relatively high life time. It is another object of the invention to provide a water purification process without producing any byproduct. Surprisingly it has now been found that, a fabric filter impregnated with a thermoplastic polymer and silver halide capable of forming a antimicrobial membrane having ultrafiltration property that has long lasting life, requiring lesser number of interventions and without producing any byproduct and yet is capable of delivering microbiologically safe water.Cette invention concerne une membrane antimicrobienne, plus particulièrement, une membrane antimicrobienne pour la purification de l'eau potable par gravité par élimination du micro-organisme nocif qui existe dans une source d'eau testée. Un autre objet de l'invention concerne un procédé de purification d'eau ne générant aucun sous-produit. De manière inattendue, on a maintenant découvert qu'un filtre en étoffe imprégné avec un polymère thermoplastique et un halogénure d'argent est capable de former une membrane antimicrobienne douée d'une propriété d'ultrafiltration ayant une longue durée de vie, requérant un nombre moindre d'interventions et ne produisant aucun sous-produit tout en étant encore capable de produire une eau microbiologiquement sûre.
