PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscopic apparatus capable of providing high-definition images by performing optimal modulation control and imaging control according to the light quantity of an image to be captured while avoiding a modulation reversing phenomenon.SOLUTION: This endoscopic apparatus includes an endoscopic scope on which an image pickup element having an electronic shutter function is mounted, and a control device. The endoscopic scope includes an imaging control means for controlling a shutter speed of the electronic shutter. The control device includes: a semiconductor light source a light source control means for controlling an emission light quantity a light quantity detecting means for detecting the light quantity of a subject image and an exposure control means that obtains a shutter speed target value and an emission light quantity target value corresponding to the light quantity, outputs a shutter speed control signal to the imaging control means and a light source control signal to the light source control means, and controls the exposure quantity of the image pickup element.
