PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a food preservative improved in an aldehyde absorbing ability, suitable for food to be preserved, and transpiring ethanol, and to provide a package of the food preservative.SOLUTION: The food preservative is obtained by mixing at least iron powder, an oxidation promoting agent, water, an ethanol transpired body and ethylene urea. The water has a mass of &ge5.5-&le15 mass% of the mass of the iron powder.
