The present invention is directed to alkanal derivatives of water-solublepolymers such as poly(ethylene glycol), their corresponding hydrates andacetals, and to methods for preparing and using such polymer alkanals. Thepolymer alkanals of the invention are prepared in high purity and exhibitstorage stability.
