Disclosed are systems and methods for receiving automatic programming requests to deliver medication in an infusion pump. This pump can receive requests and analyze automatic programming settings. The infusion pump can also compare the automatic programming settings with the program settings stored in the drug library. When the pump detects an error in an automatic programming request, the pump can generate and display an error message that specifically identifies the cause of this error. The pump can also display suggested actions that can be taken to eliminate error messages.
