point changes in the 3 'utr nucleotide sequence of the vegf gene have been identified which substantially increase the lifespan of its transcription product, i.e. mrna in mammalian cells. By experimentation, a gene construct was selected from an ideal list of identified mutations, characterized by the longer lasting life span of the mrna.
