This disclosure is directed to a catheter having a multi-electrode assemblywith ahigh electrode density. The multi-electrode assembly may be a basket-shapedelectrodeassembly or a brush-shaped electrode assembly each having a plurality ofspines. Eachspine includes a flexible wire core of a shape memory material. The flexiblewires mayhave variable cross-section s to control the movement and stiffness of thespines.
