The container is a rigid or semi-rigid container having a sealable longitudinal conduit through which steam sterilant can be introduced into the container and steam sterilant and condensate can be removed from the container. When the object or objects to be sterilized are placed on the container, the cover is sealed over the mouth of the container. The steam sterilizer has a sterilization chamber configured to receive a container and provide a sterilant in and around the container.
