In a lower limb prosthesis an ankle unit has a combination of an hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly providing a continuously damped range of ankle flexion and a resilient telescopic shock absorber. The damping resistance of the piston and cylinder assembly is the predominant resistance to ankle flexion and is provided by a piston (28) which is axially moveable in a cylinder (26) centred on the shin axis. The wall (26W) of the cylinder has a cylindrical outer bearing surface for a sleeve (48) which is translationally displaceable relative to the piston and cylinder assembly according to the axial load, the sleeve being resiliently mounted by a compression spring (52) which extends axially within the sleeve and has an integral end portion (52B) forming an upper bulkhead of the cylinder. The sleeve is also rotatable on the cylinder wall, the spring (52) providing torsional resistance.La présente invention concerne une prothèse de membre inférieur dans laquelle une unité de cheville a une combinaison d'un ensemble de piston hydraulique et de cylindre produisant une portée amortie en continu de flexion de la cheville et un absorbeur de choc télescopique résilient. La résistance d'amortissement de l'ensemble de piston et de cylindre est la résistance prédominante à la flexion de la cheville et est produite par un piston (28) qui est axialement déplaçable dans un cylindre (26) centré sur l'axe de jambière. La paroi (26W) du cylindre a une surface d'appui externe cylindrique pour un manchon (48) qui est déplaçable par translation par rapport à l'ensemble de piston et de cylindre en fonction de la charge axiale, le manchon étant monté de façon résiliente par un ressort de compression (52) qui s'étend axialement dans le manchon et a une partie d'extrémité intégrée (52B) formant une cloison supérieure du cylindre.
