PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous pharmaceutical composition which provides sustained release delivery of a corticosteroid compound. The pharmaceutical composition comprises a soluble corticosteroid and at least one viscosity enhancing agent. Also disclosed are methods of using the pharmaceutical composition for epidural, intraarticular, or intralesional injection. In one embodiment, the present application discloses an aqueous pharmaceutical composition wherein the soluble corticosteroid is selected from salts and esters of the group consisting of dexamethasone, methylprednisolone, prednisolone, and triamcinolone acetonide.
