An autonomous device for executing one or more operations on or near the teats of a dairy animal for the purpose of milking the dairy animal, including a self-propelled wheeled undercarriage which can travel freely across a floor surface in at least two independent directions, and a robot arm which is fitted to the undercarriage and configured to execute the one or more operations on or near the teats of the dairy animal, the device configured to execute the one or more operations in a milking device with a milking floor on which the dairy animals are situated during milking, and the device being supported on a stationary pit floor during the execution of the one or more operations, which pit floor is at a lower level than the milking floor.L'invention concerne un dispositif autonome (15) exécutant une ou plusieurs opérations sur les tétines d'un animal laitier (50) ou à proximité en vue de la traite de ce dernier. Ce dispositif comprend : un train de roulement sur roues autopropulsé (16) pouvant se déplacer librement sur une surface du sol dans au moins deux direction indépendantes, et un bras de robot (17) qui est monté sur le train de roulement et qui est conçu pour effectuer une ou plusieurs opérations sur des tétines de l'animal laitier ou à proximité. Ledit dispositif est conçu pour effectuer lesdites une ou plusieurs opérations dans une installation de traite (1) comprenant un plancher de traite (14) sur lequel se trouvent les animaux laitiers pendant la traite. Le dispositif (15) repose sur un plancher fixe sur puits (10) pendant l'exécution de la ou des opérations, le plancher sur puits se trouvant en contrebas par rapport au plancher de traite.
