The present application provides compositions and methods for promoting nerve regeneration using at least one component of neural stem cells or IL12p40. The composition comprises neural stem cells and a neurotrophic factor constructed with IL12p40 as at least one subunit. The method for promoting nerve regeneration includes providing a subject with a nerve regeneration composition comprising a neurotrophic factor containing IL12p40 as at least one subunit. The composition of the method may further comprise neural stem cells.
