Disclosed herein are methods for treating a cancer comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an effective dose of a CYP26-resistant retinoic acid receptor (RAR) alpha (RARα) selective agonist, whereby as a result of the treatment the tumor burden is reduced in the subject and cancer stem cells resident in the bone marrow are substantially reduced.Linvention concerne des méthodes de traitement dun cancer, qui consistent à administrer à un sujet qui en a besoin une dose efficace dun agoniste sélectif du récepteur de lacide rétinoïque (RAR) alpha (RARa), résistant à CYP26. Ce traitement atténue la masse tumorale chez le sujet et réduit sensiblement les cellules souches cancéreuses résidant dans la moelle osseuse.
