PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To limit the output of illumination light from a light source part when performing optical enlargement, to suppress heat generation at the distal end part of a scope, and to reduce the irradiation amount of the illumination light to a body to be observed.
SOLUTION: In the electronic endoscopic apparatus, a scope 10 loaded with an optical enlargement mechanism for optically enlarging the image of the body to be observed is connected to a processor unit 12 and the body to be observed is imaged by a CCD 15 on the basis of the illumination light outputted by the control of the diaphragm blade 35 of the light source part. When it is detected that the scope 10 connected to the processor unit 12 is loaded with the optical enlargement mechanism and the optical enlargement is executed by the optical enlargement mechanism, light quantity is controlled in the state that the opening amount of the diaphragm blade 35 does not become 1/2 or more of the amount when it is fully opened for instance by a light quantity control circuit 36, and the maximum quantity of light outputted from the light source part is limited. Also, setting is executed such that the speed of an electronic shutter is increased as an optical enlargement rate becomes high.
