A dental appliance and method of treatment are disclosed. The dental appliance attaches to predetermined teeth of an upper jaw of a patient, and includes a constraint mechanism positioned above a patient's tongue, wherein the constraint mechanism is shaped to limit movement of a posterior zone of the patient's tongue. The constraint mechanism allows at least an anterior zone and lateral edges of the patient's tongue to perform movements necessary for speech and swallowing. The method of treatment includes use of the dental appliance to reduce the volume of a patient's tongue and enlarge the airways, and can be combined with use of another dental appliance to correct another aspect of the patient's tongue.La présente invention concerne un appareil dentaire et une méthode de traitement. Ledit dispositif dentaire se fixe à des dents prédéfinies d'une mâchoire supérieure d'un patient, et comprend un mécanisme de contrainte positionné au-dessus de la langue du patient. Ledit mécanisme de contrainte est formé de manière à limiter le mouvement d'une zone postérieure de la langue du patient. Ledit mécanisme de contrainte permet à au moins une zone antérieure et à des bords latéraux de la langue du patient de réaliser les mouvements nécessaires pour parler et avaler. Ladite méthode de traitement comprend l'utilisation dudit dispositif dentaire pour réduire le volume de la langue du patient et élargir les voies respiratoires ； elle peut être combinée à l'utilisation d'un autre dispositif dentaire pour corriger un autre aspect de la langue du patient.
