PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a heterobifunctional derivative of poly(ethylene glycol) or the related polymer thereof at a high purity and a high yield.SOLUTION: An intermediate polymer is represented by formula: W-Poly-OH having a removable W group at either terminal without undergoing a chromatography refining stage.
