The present invention relates to an apparatus for attracting and catching insects such as mosquitoes or flies, and more particularly, to a catching apparatus which attracts insects by sound, odor or the like, and when finding an insect inside the catching apparatus, blocks the retreat and catches the insect. The catching apparatus comprises: an attracting part for attracting insects such as mosquitoes a case for receiving the attraction part and insects a recognizing part for detecting whether an insect is introduced into the case an entrance which allows insects to enter into or leave from the case and which can be opened/closed a swatter for catching insects introduced into and confined in the case and a control unit for controlling the operation of the above-mentioned components. The insect catching apparatus enables flying insects which avoid an insect-proof net and flow into the apparatus to be attracted and caught without using a mosquito repellent or an insecticide, reduces generation of noises by driving a physically operating apparatus using an electromagnet, and enables an apparatus with much simpler structure to be manufactured.
