The invention relates to medical equipment for collecting body fluids from a patient for the purpose of clinical laboratory tests. The invention prevents the accidental opening of a test tube and keeps the test tube air-tight as a result of the improved fastening of a cap having a stopper on a cylindrical vessel. A vacuum test tube comprises a vessel having an open end, a rubber stopper for hermetically sealing the vessel, and a cap. Ledges are provided about the perimeter of the inner and outer surfaces of the vessel in the region of the open end. The stopper is provided with a stepped ledge, the upper portion of the stopper contacting the cap, and the lower portion of the stopper contacting the vessel. The inner surface of the cap is provided about the perimeter with a rectangular ledge for interacting with the stepped ledge of the stopper, and an additional ledge disposed lower down. The ledge disposed on the outer surface of the vessel is capable of resisting against the additional ledge of the cap when the cap is detached from the vessel, and the ledge disposed on the inner surface of the vessel is capable of mating with the lower portion of the stopper.
