One or both of the first and second jaw members (110, 120) define a knife channel (118). The first jaw member (110) defines fastener slots (116) and the second jaw member (120) defines fastener pockets (124). One or more of the knife channel (118), the fastener slots (116), and the fastener pockets (124) includes lateral recesses (1 16a). Fasteners (70) are disposed in the fastener slots (116) and formed by the fastener pockets (124). One or more surgical buttresses (130) have a body (132) that overlies one or both of the fastener slots (116) and the fastener pockets (124).
