The first jaw assembly (110) defines slots (116) and the second jaw assembly (120) defines pockets (124). One or both of the first and second jaw assemblies (110, 120) define recesses (115). The fasteners (70) are disposed in the slots (116) of the first jaw assembly (110) and are formed by the pockets (124) of the second jaw assembly (120). The one or more surgical buttresses (130) have a body (132) that includes plugs (134) that are integrally formed with the body (132) for insertion into the recesses (115) to secure the surgical buttress(es) (130) to one or both of the first and second jaw assemblies (110, 120).
