PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide precise evaluation and discrimination means of usability of a skin external preparation, especially usability for inflammation of the skin.SOLUTION: An evaluation method of a skin external preparation is provided in which: the skin external preparation is an emulsion type one including an aqueous phase at the outermost phase； a widening area of the skin external preparation of which viscosity is 1000-3000 mPa s at 25°C is measured as a widening diameter at at least two temperatures by use of a spreadmeter to acquire dispersion of measurement values by temperature change； and usability of the skin external preparation is discriminated to be excellent when the dispersion value is 1-4. At least two temperatures are preferably selected from a temperature near the room temperature, a temperature higher than the room temperature, and a temperature lower than the room temperature.【課題】皮膚外用剤の使用性、特に炎症の存する肌における使用性を的確に評価、判別する手段の提供。【解決手段】最外相に水相を有する乳化剤形の皮膚外用剤であって、該皮膚外用剤の粘度が２５℃で１０００～３０００ｍＰａ・ｓの皮膚外用剤を、該皮膚外用剤の少なくとも２種の温度における広がり面積を、スプレッドメーターを用いて広がり直径として測定し、該測定値の温度変化による分散を求め、前記分散が１～４の値をとった場合に、前記皮膚外用剤は使用性に優れると判別する皮膚外用薬の評価法。少なくとも２種の温度は、室温付近の温度、室温より高い温度及び室温より低い温度であることが好ましい皮膚外用薬の評価法。【選択図】なし
