The present invention relates to a device for monitoring a gait through video surveillance, comprising a processing unit and a database unit. Further, the processing unit comprises: an image pre-processing unit for performing pre-processing, which removes a background from an image photographed in real time by an image acquisition unit a first determining unit for extracting a moving object from an image frame pre-processed by the image pre-processing unit and determining that the moving object is in a loitering state if the moving object is included in continuous image frames over a set time and a second determining unit for extracting and tracing a silhouette of the moving object from a plurality of image frames including the moving object, which is determined as being in the loitering state by the first determining unit, and generating a gait image of the moving object. Moreover, the database unit carries out saving a gait pattern of the moving object correspondingly and the processing unit searches for the gait image generated by the second determining unit from the gait pattern saved in the database unit so as to output a similar gait pattern.
