An embodiment in accordance with the present invention provides anapparatus for inserting a lens into a flap or pocket in the cornea. Theapparatus includes a handle, a plunger extending movably through the lumenof the handle, wherein the plunger includes a distal segment which extendsbeyond the distal end of the handle, an actuator coupled to the plungerconfigured to provide movement to the plunger, and a leaf extending from thedistal end of the handle and configured to hold the lens to be inserted intotheeye, wherein the leaf defines a slot configured to enable loading the lensontothe inserter.
