PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antimicrobial agent which is safe, producible inexpensively, and applicable to a wide range of use.SOLUTION: This antimicrobial agent includes one or more compounds selected from a group comprising berberine and derivatives therefrom, and magnesium oxide. Berberine or the derivative may be contained as a pure substance, or may be contained as a composition containing berberine or the derivative as a component.
