A light therapy device 1 for treating an area of skin, the device including an elastically deformable circuit board insert 9 for placement against a wound such that it is releasably securable thereto by a compression dressing. The insert comprises a circuit board 8 with an array of LEDs 10, the LEDs having a skin-contact surface area to be positioned against and around a skin surface. The device includes control unit 2 for remotely operating the LED's to selectively administer continuous or intermittent treatments of light therapy to or around the area of skin under treatment, the control unit being detachably connectable to the insert such the insert may be detached and replaced as necessary. The insert may comprise sensors to measure the temperature, humidity and pH of the treatment area, these may be used to automatically determine and deliver a most effective treatment protocol.
