The present invention relates to a composition for inhibiting activity of tyrosinase and generation of melanin. More specifically, the present invention relates to a cosmetic composition and pharmaceutical composition containing an extract of microalgae including Nitzschia sp. as an active ingredient for inhibiting activity of tyrosinase and generation of melanin. According to the present invention, the composition has effects of inhibiting activity of tyrosinase and generation of melanin.
