A mouth guard that may be used to treat temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is configured to eliminate pressure on an individuals back teeth. Such a mouth guard may also be configured to prevent a subjects lower jaw from moving in a posterior direction, or from “distalization.” Methods for treating TMD include spacing the top teeth at the back of a subjects mouth from the bottom teeth at the back of the subjects mouth without applying pressure to either the top teeth or the bottom teeth.
