An apparatus for applying surgical tissue (100) body fasteners, the apparatus comprising: a handle assembly (102) including a trigger (108) and a rod drive (140) which can be moved reciprocally by a shutter actuation thereof a set of trunk (104) extending distally from the handle assembly and defining a longitudinal axis, the assembly body including: a housing (103) a plurality of disposed within housing surgical fasteners a clamp (106) mounted adjacent a distal end portion of the housing, the clamp is movable between a spaced open position and an approximated closed condition one disposed within the housing for reciprocal movement between a proximal position and a distal pusher bar (156), the pusher bar configured to load the distalmost surgical fastener jaws while the jaws are in open position and remains in the distal position during an approximation of the jaws one feed plate (162) disposed within the housing for reciprocation between positions proximal and distal, in which the feed plate is coupled to the pusher bar during distal movement and proximal of the pusher bar to effectuate one of between a distal and proximal movement of the feed plate and wedge plate (172) disposed within the housing for reciprocation between positions proximal and distal, in which a distal end of the wedge plate is disposed in the jaws when in the distal position and the distal end thereof it is free from the jaws when is in the proximal position, wherein the pusher bar includes a first spring clip (157a) supported thereon for detachably connected to a stationary feature of the housing to keep the bar pusher in the distal position and a second spring clip (157b) supported thereon for detachably connected to a first feature of a connector plate (174), wherein the first feature of the connector plate disengages from the second spring clip following the completion a distal opening movement of attachment of the connector plate and the pusher bar and wherein the feed plate includes a spr
