An interface device for selectively engaging a suction ring with a patient interface of a laser unit includes an annular shaped base member that is formed with an orifice. The suction ring is affixed against one side of the base member to surround the orifice. A grip is mounted on the other side of the base member. Structurally, the grip includes independently manipulated handles that can be operated to symmetrically apply equal and opposite forces against the patient interface of the laser unit during an engagement of the device with the patient interface.
