The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising an extract of Clausena excavata burm. or a fraction thereof for preventing or treating liver cirrhosis by inhibiting TGF-&beta/smad signal transduction involved in liver cirrhosis, a food composition for preventing or treating liver cirrhosis, and a method for preventing or treating liver cirrhosis using the pharmaceutical composition. The pharmaceutical composition comprising an extract of Clausena excavata burm. or a fraction thereof, according to the present invention, exhibits high-level antioxidant activity and can suppress expression of PAI-1 protein which may cause or deteriorate liver cirrhosis and inhibit the TGF-&beta/smad signal transduction, thereby comprehensively controlling onset and deterioration of liver cirrhosis. Therefore, as liver cirrhosis shown in liver cirrhosis induced animal models can be effectively inhibited, the pharmaceutical composition can be widely used for preventing or treating liver cirrhosis.COPYRIGHT KIPO 2015본 발명은 간경화에 관여하는 TGF-β/smad 신호전달을 억제하여 간경화의 발병을 예방하거나 또는 발병된 간경화를 치료할 수 있는 클러세나 엑스카바타(Clausena excavata Burm.) 추출물 또는 그의 분획물을 포함하는 약학적 조성물, 간경화 예방 또는 개선용 식품 조성물 및 상기 약학적 조성물을 이용하여 간경화를 예방 또는 치료하는 방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 클러세나 엑스카바타의 추출물 또는 그의 분획물을 포함하는 약학적 조성물은 높은 수준의 항산화 활성을 나타낼 뿐만 아니라, 간경화를 유발 또는 악화시킬 수 있는, PAI-1 단백질의 발현을 억제할 수 있고, TGF-β/Smad 신호전달을 억제할 수 있어, 간경화의 발병 및 악화를 종합적으로 억제할 수 있으며, 이로 인하여 간경화 유발 동물모델에서 나타나는 간경화를 효과적으로 억제할 수 있으므로, 간경화의 예방 또는 치료에 널리 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
