Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung zum Begasen, wobei ein Gasgemisch aus einem Begasungsmittel und einer kryogenen Flüssigkeit verdampft wird, indem das in einem Vorratsbehälter unter Druck stehende Gemisch durch ein Druckminderungsventil geleitet wird, so dass das Gemisch vollständig verdampft und der Dampf zum Begasen einer Ware zugeführt wird. Nach einem ersten Aspekt der vorliegenden Erfindung wird das Gemisch im Vorratsbehälter derart temperiert, dass es ein überkritisches Fluid bildet. Hierdurch wird eine Destillation des Begasungsmittels verhindert. Nach einem zweiten Aspekt der vorliegenden Erfindung wird das verdampfte Gemisch unter Hinzufügung von Druckluft zerstäubt und das Verhältnis zwischen Gemisch und der Druckluft mittels austauschbarer Blenden und/oder einstellbarer Druckminderungsventile eingestellt.
