PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen generation unit that generates hydrogen in a shorter time than conventional hydrogen adding devices and enhances the ability to prevent by-products from spilling into drinking water after hydrogen generation.SOLUTION: A hydrogen generation unit includes a hydrogen generating agent that generates hydrogen by absorbing water and a container having an ion exchanger or ion adsorber containing the hydrogen generating agent. The container has a structure that enables the liquid to flow freely in the container. The ion exchanger or ion adsorber exchanges, adsorbs or blocks a cation discharged when the hydrogen generating agent absorbs the liquid to generate hydrogen.
