[0051] Abstract [0052] The present invention relates to agents targeting specific pathways of the glycolysis. The glyceraldehyde phosphate dehydrogenase inhibitor or glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate inhibitor, pyruvate inhibitor and oxidation inhibitors are useful as anticancer agents by blocking the crucial steps in glycolysis, which inhibit the supply of glucose to the cancer cells thus halting the growth of the cancer cells. The present invention further discloses the mechanism of carcinogens acting as electron acceptor and its role in glycolysis. The carcinogen acts as electron receptor and aids the cancer cell growth. The conversion of glyceraldehyde-3- to 1, 3-bisphosphoglycerate, conversion of pyruvate to lactate and oxidation of NADH are effective targets for inhibition of glycolysis. The inhibition of three crucial steps of glycolysis prevents the accumulation of NAD+, which is essential for cell growth and prevent the proliferation of cancer cells thus inhibiting carcinogenesis.
